Information for Supply Teachers

Supply teachers may not be familiar with the pupils in the classes they provide cover for or the school’s policies. It is very important that they follow the same guidance outlined by the Go to website Scottish Government and Go to website EAACI:

Number 1

Receive and stay up to date with training in allergic disease, anaphylaxis and the emergency response. See Understanding Allergy section.

Number 2

Become familiar with the school’s allergy policy, including the preventative measures to follow and emergency response protocol to anaphylaxis.

Number 3

Identify pupils with allergies in the class prior to providing cover, when possible.

Number 4

Plan activities in advance to include pupils with allergies.

Number 5

Recognise the signs of mild to severe reactions and know how to respond appropriately by referring to training.
