Burdett Trust for Nursing

The Burdett Trust for Nursing was established in 2002 with the aim of making charitable grants to support the nursing contribution to healthcare. The Trustees target their grants at projects that are nurse-led and that empower nurses to make significant improvements to the patient care environment.  It provides support: to build research capacity, for professional development and nurse led initiatives.

Chief Scientist Office (CSO)

Researcher initiated grant scheme - limit £300k

All applications to CSO response mode schemes are assessed by one of 2 research advisory committees:

  1. Translational Clinical Studies Research Committee
  2. Health Improvement, Protection and Services Research Committee

General Nursing Council Fund

The General Nursing Council and Margaret Callum Rodger Awards are used by registered nurses and midwives to undertake educational developments, study tours or carry out small scale projects, all of which must make a difference to patient or client care. JMAS Sim Fellowship

The John, Margaret, Alfred and Stewart Sim Fellowship provides funding for any graduates in Medicine and Science to research the causes or treatment of depression. See the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh website below for more information.

Wellbeing of Women

These awards are for projects in laboratory, clinical and translational research in the areas of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period, including pre-term birth, miscarriage and fertility; general wellbeing surrounding women’s health issues such as menopause, incontinence, sexual health, perinatal mental health, menstrual disorder and endometriosis; and gynaecological cancers.
