There are many apps available, and the list below represents just a few of these apps that we (LW and LG) have found to be useful in our personal experience of using them. Inclusion on this list is purely down to our personal preference, and is in no way an endorsement of any product by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. All are available for iOS and Android, unless otherwise stated. 

 

Apps which we (LW and LG) have found to be useful

The Oxford Mindfulness Foundation 

(Currently [Jan 2020] only available for iOS, but all content accessible from the website in the link above). The App includes audio recordings of guided meditations and more, and is designed to support people going through the 8 week MBCT course and beyond.

Headspace

(Free trial content, paid for full content). Well designed app with great explanatory animations and a wide range of practices (5-20 minutes), often presented in the form of 10-session 'courses', eg managing stress, helping sleep, etc.

Insight Timer

(Free, with some paid-for content and functionality). Huge collection of audio guided practices, of variable quality,  some more focused on relaxation than mindfulness.  Also incorporates useful features such as a timer for self-guided practice, talks, and courses.

NHS GG&C Mindfulness Based Approaches App

This app!  This is free to use, and the front page includes links to download the app from apps stores. We are piloting and actively updating it. It contains resources and links for people on an 8 week MBCT/MBSR course, information about local services, audio of conferences and practice days which GG&C and NHS Scotland have supported. Pages are updated on a weekly basis. We encourage you to keep checking back with this app as it evolves to support staff and service users with resources tailored to local needs.

Stop Breathe Think 

(Free, with paid-for premium content). Short practices, good for beginners.

Buddhify

(Upfront charge and optional premium subscription). Very well-designed and customisable app that takes a different approach to most mindfulness apps, focussing more on informal and 'on-the-go' practices. A great way to get started and also to practice throughout the day.
