Improving the quality of care for children and young people in Glasgow

It can be very stressful when your child is unwell. We know that there is a huge amount of information available at your fingertips, but finding something that provides clear and accurate information is not always easy!

The resources on the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow (RHCG) website/app have been developed with our multi-disciplinary team to help ensure you can find everything you need to know about your child coming to hospital.

Our parent and young people advice has been developed in partnership between our hospital medical staff and primary care colleagues and adapted with permission from the Healthier Together initiative. You'll find information on common childhood illnesses, including advice on 'red-flag' warning signs to look out for, when and where to seek help and how to keep your child comfortable. Our information is regularly reviewed by our team to make sure we are giving you accurate and up-to-date advice.

This information has been developed alongside our professional resource to be used not only by parents but also by healthcare professionals. We want your child to receive consistently high-quality care, irrespective of which healthcare provider you take them to see.

About our team

Dr. Morag Wilson is a Consultant Paediatrician at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. She is the Project Lead. The RHCG site and App has been developed to give parents the information they need about looking after their child's health at home, when to come to hospital and what to expect when they come. The health professional information has been developed as resource for professional users of the hospital, and includes parent safety netting and discharge information, which mirrors the pre-hospital side. This is closely linked with the paediatric guideline site for RHCG.

Michelle Kirkwood is the Knowledge Services Manager for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. She is responsible for overseeing the development of apps for staff and patients within NHSGGC as part of the Scotland-wide initiative, The Right Decision Service.

Seona Hamilton is the Subject Specialist Librarian for the Women & Children's Directorate in NHSGGC. Seona is responsible for gathering and organising the information for the website/app and adding it using the Right Decision Service content management tools. She is also involved in collating usage statistics and ensuring the content is kept up to date.

Dr. Geetika Kumar is a Consultant Paediatrician at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.  Geetika's main role has been in developing the pre-hospital clinical information for parents, and the safety netting information leaflets after they have seen a clinician.

Melville Dixon is head of the Paediatric Orthotic Service for GGC and chair of the Parent and Carer Group for the Children’s hospital. He has worked for the hospital since 2004 and loves his job because he has the privilege of helping the children and families we treat here at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

Coral Brady is the Business & Administration Manager for Women & Children's Services in NHSGGC.

Lucie Agolini is an independent UI / UX Designer with 11 years behind her of crafting user focused digital experiences and products.  She much enjoyed injecting playfulness and relatability into the illustrations and interface of the NHS RHCG website and apps. You can find examples of Lucie's other work at www.lucieagolini.com or drop her a line at lucie@lucieagolini.com.
